Reflection

Reflection by Sarah Sarchet Butter

Dear Village Church Family,

Let’s face it, life is better shared.  Its at the heart of our Christian theology:  we share in Christ’s life, which was God’s way of sharing in our life.  And when we commit ourselves to shared living in Christ’s name, God makes more of us together than we ever could be apart.  Its miraculous, and wondrous, and a high calling.  So, I’ve decided a good word for our congregation for the month of October is SHARE.

As I take on the mantle of serving as your Sr. Pastor, I have yearned to share time with each of you, so much so that I proposed something radical to the Pastor Nominating Committee and Stewardship Committees earlier this fall.  I proposed that we open up the fall season to share time in ministry, before embracing stewardship season when we ask one another to share in the common ministry of Christ’s church with financial pledges.  SO, here goes the radical:  We are post-poning stewardship season to January (more on that later) and making room for a season of SHARING.

Members of the Pastor Nominating Committee and Stewardship committee are leading the way.  They have volunteered to host gatherings of 20-40 Village Church members in their homes for what we are calling, “A Time to Share. . . .    I’ll be at each one— and eager to share in conversation with you about your experiences, hopes, and dreams for Village Church.  Our goal— an auspicious one— is to make sure everyone who wishes to participate is invited to one “A time to share. . . “ gathering.  We’re a big church family, so it will take a while to reach out to everyone, but Village Church is good at accomplishing big things.

When an invitation comes your way, please say YES!  Come and share your thoughts about what Village Church has meant to you, and share in conversation about the future God is calling us to share together.  We are looking for more hosts for additional gatherings in January and February:  please contact coordinator Linda Smith to volunteer or help.

As Paul wrote to Philemon 1:4-7:

I always thank my God as I remember you in my prayers,  because I hear about your love for all God’s holy people and your faith in the Lord Jesus.  I pray that your partnership with us in the faith may be effective in DEEPENING YOUR UNDERSTANDING OF EVERY GOOD THING WE SHARE for the sake of Christ. Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.

I look forward to hearing you share Village Church highlights and to listening to one another as we deepen our understandings of the new ministry we are called to share in Christ’s name.

Thanking God for you in my prayers,

Sarah Sarchet Butter
