Something New!!!! Wellesley Public School Half Day Gatherings at Village Church.
This year we are excited to welcome Wellesley (and other towns if the dates coincide) Middle School Youth to Village Church on the public school half days from 1-3PM. These monthly events are open to all local youth and their friends. Everyone is welcome! The one o’clock start allows time for the youth to eat before venturing to Village Church at 1PM for a special dessert and community building/service activities. Michaela McDonald and I, along with church volunteers, will lead each gathering.
From time to time, members of the fifth grade Children’s Church can be seen peeking into the youth room with great anticipation and excitement. They have already heard that youth group is a lot of fun and loved by many. As they peer in, they can hardly wait to experience what youth group is all about!
Whether a child is a member of Children’s Church or not, all are welcome to 6 - 7th Grade Youth Group. During our gatherings, the youth and advisors pray together and describe the highs and lows of their week. We then engage in a wide variety of group building and faith exploring activities. We might talk about gratitude and write a Thanksgiving Prayer together to be shared with family, friends, and the congregation. Another time, we might share our images of God. We always have time to listen to each other and share our thoughts about school, friends, and family – and to play games like swivel hips and ghosts in the graveyard!
Through all these activities, the youth discover more about themselves as they build trusting relationships, practice some of the ways we are all called to live together in Christian community, and explore their faith. And, of course, we have a lot of fun doing it.
When the year draws to an end, most of the youth are left wanting more.
Send your child (and their friends) along if your child has a half day on any of these dates.
