Village Table ~ A Food Program
Village Table Update
“I was hungry, and you fed me.” – Matthew 25:35
Can it be a coincidence that at a time when a record number of Americans – including our neighbors – are unemployed and food-insecure, we have an enormous kitchen in our church?
Can it be a coincidence that this kitchen is already inspected and approved for the mass production of meals … with multiple ovens, an industrial freezer, and restaurant-grade cleaning facilities?
Can it be a coincidence that our own Gary Arthur is a professionally-trained chef who has run huge food operations for organizations like Stanford and MIT, and vendors like Sodexho and Aramark?
Sometimes, all the pieces just fit together. That’s when we know we’re on to something great.
Greatness abounded in the generosity of dozens of Village Church members, who came together in a “trial run” of Village Table, our new Village Church food program. Under the leadership of Chef Gary Arthur, we prepped, cooked, and dished out 158 portions of deliciousness, including:
63 meals of Roasted Lemon Chicken, with simmered farro and vegetables.
62 meals of Meatless Lasagna, with zucchini, eggplant, red bell peppers, crimini mushrooms, onions, garlic, garden fresh herbs, ricotta cheese, lots of shredded mozzarella, and marinara sauce.
33 meals of Farro and Vegetables, simmered in chicken stock and herbs.
