Kevin McDonald

Kevin has decades of experience working with youth of all ages and has been serving as Director of Youth Music at Village Church since 2006. In this position, he directs over 40-50 singers in the Junior Choir (gr. 3-6) and the Youth Choir (gr. 7-12). Kevin is also the Director of Choral Activities at Wellesley High School, where he leads a thriving and award-winning choral program with over 200 singers, allowing him a unique insight to the daily experience and demands on many youth of the church. In fact, several youth members of Village Church invited him to apply for his current position at the church. Kevin jumped at the opportunity to share his faith through music and officially accepted the call as Director of Youth Music.

Kevin has always had a strong calling to music in worship. As a child, he was strongly influenced by his mother and grandmother who both held organist positions in Massachusetts and Florida. He would go on to join the youth choir in the church and eventually perform as a church soloist at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Ludlow, MA, and Old First Church in Springfield, MA. Kevin’s first music teaching position was as Music Director at Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA, where his choirs consistently performed for significant Mass celebrations in the Diocese of Springfield. Shortly thereafter, he accepted the position of Choir Director at the Center Church in South Hadley, MA, where he directed both the senior and youth choirs.

Kevin is an active guest conductor, adjudicator, and clinician. His education includes a B.M. in music education from the University of New Hampshire, an M.M. in low brass performance from the University of Idaho, and a D.M.A. in music education from The Hartt School, University of Hartford. He has received several awards for his dedication to music education and quality of teaching, including the Springfield Chamber of Commerce Teaching Excellence Award and the Music Educators National Conference Professional Achievement Award. He is also an avid sports fan and enjoys coaching young athletes in football and basketball. Kevin enjoys serving at Village Church with his wife, Michaela, who holds the position of Director of Children’s Ministries, and conducting their son Connor in the church’s Junior Choir.
